my review
This is the eigth book in the Mason Creek series.
My soul was not ready for the story of Laken and Grayson! It was such a beautiful, even when it was heart-wrenching, story, one that had me in tears many times throughout. There are some heavy themes in this book… those of loss and sorrow, that of learning to open your heart again. Add those emotional elements to the beauty of a wonderful small-town romance, and this book has everything you need for you to keep turning the pages.
Laken was such a wonderful heroine for this story. She’s kind and compassionate, giving and understanding. She has a heart that’s open and full of love. It was hard not to love her as her relationship with Grayson and his twins developed, watching her just want to love them, not replace the wife and mother they lost. I also loved that, although Grayson was her schoolgirl crush, it was with his daughters that her relationships really began.
And Grayson… this is a man with all the weight of the world resting upon his soldiers as he learns to navigate the world of single fatherhood with his twin daughters. He struggles with losing his wife and feeling guilty for his developing feelings for Laken. So many times my heart broke for his pain.
This is really a great read, so read the WHOLE series!
