the blurb
Easton
They say to marry your best friend. So that’s what I did. But what no one knows is that it’s not even real—it’s a marriage of convenience.
Yeah, I married Claire Weller to fulfill a long-ago promise made back when we were just kids. Problem is, I’ve always had feelings for Claire, and now I’ve gone and fully fallen in love with her.
Too bad she sees me only as a friend.
Claire
Easton Sonden was my teenage crush. But then we went our separate ways. He went on to greatness, becoming a star hockey player, while I had my own life. Until we reunited.
Now he’s my husband!
How lucky did I get? Easton is gorgeous, sweet, and has a body made for sin. And now he’s all mine.
Well, not really. Our marriage is a sham.
But I don’t want it to be—I want more. I’m afraid to tell him, though. What if he doesn’t feel the same way?
I don’t think my heart can handle that.
So I guess I’ll just go on pretending.
Until I no longer can.
Easton is the first novel in the new Glacier Hockey series.
- a few notes
- my review
- the good & the bad
POV: 1st person; dual
keywords/phrases: hockey, best friends
tropes: friends to lovers
spice: 4/🔥🔥🔥🔥
language: 2/🤬🤬
read this if… you love hockey-themed or slow-burn romances.
the good
- hockey, hockey, hockey
- smart, independent FMC
- supportive, compassionate MMC
the bad
- little slow to come together
As a trope, I love a friends-to-lovers romance. I love the idea that two people can be friends, can grow into themselves, and then have the relationship. Grey does this so well with Claire and Easton. Their years apart let them each experience life on their own terms, let them grow into themselves as individuals before coming back together.
Claire is such a great FMC, strong and independent, kind and caring. I HATED her father, and his attempts to control her. That idea of women as commodity drives me insane, but Grey didn’t glorify it, but showed it for what it is. Kudos! I loved Easton’s support of her, his willingness to step up for her, to be patient.
All in all, it’s a great story with some fabulous characters.
