my review
I have been an unabashed fan of Emma’s books since the very first one, Witchblood. This series takes witchy stories and vampy stories and weaves them together in a completely unique way. I think that this one is my favorite thus far. Over the course of the books, Jess has grown a lot and it is obvious in this book, as she takes charge of her own life and her own future in ways she hadn’t before. I loved that new confidence and maturity in her character. I was all kinds of angry at her love, Daniel, for big parts of the last two books, and I loved that Jess stood up to him and took charge of her own heart! There was a ton of action and mystery and intrigue in this book, with twists and turns all throughout the book. There is also a lot more darkness in this story, with dips into voodoo, zombies, and completely non-paranormal family dysfunction of all kinds!
Things to love…
- Jess. She has changed a lot over the course of the books and I loved her in this book. She is her own person now, able to stand up for herself and I loved seeing that in a character that is impossible not to love.
- The new American characters. Saffy is a real piece of work, but she added a lot to the story. Jess’ American family and all of their different personalities added a lot to the story.
- Brittany and her Louisiana family. Brittany ad her family were a huge part of the plot in this book and they were the kind of people you love to hate. I just wanted to grab Brittany and hug her throughout the book!
Run, don’t walk, and buy this book and the previous two! This is a fantastic series that will keep you turning the pages to the very end and leave wanting MORE!!
Brilliant review – thank you! I’m enjoying this series so much!
