the blurb
When Jenny inherits her estranged grandmother’s cottage in Sherwood Forest, she has nothing to lose - no money, no job, no friends, no family to speak of, and zero self-respect. Things can only get better...
Her grumpy, but decidedly handsome new neighbour, Mack, has a habit of bestowing unsolicited good deeds on her. And when Jenny is welcomed into a rather unusual book club, life seems to finally be getting more interesting.
Instead of reading, the members pledge to complete individual challenges before Christmas: from finding new love, learning to bake, to completing a daredevil bucket list. Jenny can’t resist joining in, and soon a year of friendship and laughter, tears and regrets unfolds in the most unexpected ways.
Warm, wise, funny and utterly uplifting, what one thing would you change in your life before Christmas comes around?

my review
Never having read this author, I picked this one purely based on cover vibes!
After having her life turned upside down, Jenny moves to a cottage nestled within Sherwood Forest, a dilapidated home left to her by her estranged grandmother. There she faces a whole new set of problems, with the walls literally on the verge of falling down around her. With all of that and a host of financial issues, the last thing she needs is a grumpy neighbor.
The setting of this story was vividly created, both in the beauty of the forest and in the ruins of Jenny’s junk-filled cottage. But, for me, it was the characters that truly drove the story. Mack, the grumpy neighbor with the heart of gold. The members of her book club, who came from all walks of life, with a shared commitment to being their for one another. Every one of them was interesting, fun, and maybe just a little whacky. And at the center of it is Jenny, whose spirit brings the story to life. She’s warm and vulnerable, even when she wishes she were less so. And no matter how bad it got, she managed to hold on to her sense of humor.
While it is a romance, it is just as much a story of self-love and friendship, with a generous helping of family drama.
