the blurb
The actor, producer, and New York Times bestselling author of The Rural Diaries provides a Grimoire for the modern girl—a book of life-saving wisdom, essays from Hilarie's life, and ways we all can create our own everyday enchantment. Grimoire Girl is a book of life saving wisdom that Hilarie Burton wants to pass down to her own children, friends, and fortunately, all of us. It is her personal grimoire, a collection of essays that follows her odyssey to define "home" for her and her family. Chronicling her journey through the dark wood of grief and loss of identity, she reveals how she endured and came out the other side, discovering that home means returning to your true self and embracing everyday enchantment. As she did in Rural Diaries, Hilarie includes recipes and tips sure to delight fans, and shares ways to infuse magic into daily how to craft an altar, how to see your deepest friendships as your “coven,” simple spells, and meals and rituals that create special traditions for your family. Grimoire Girl includes 15 two-color illustrations.

read this if… you like cozy, witchy vibes, like Practical Magic or anything Alice Hoffman writes!
the good
- gorgeous artwork
- nice blend of personal notes and history/myth
- inspiring
the bad
- no notes
This is a book that is beautiful just to hold in your hands and look it. The texture of the pages, the artwork, the ink colors used… these details made reading this book feel just a little luxurious. It is part memoir, part how-to, part grimoire. It is a collection of Morgan’s thoughts, quotes, bits of poetry and myths, and her practices and beliefs. It’s about treasuring both big and small moments in your life, about honoring them in your day to day life, as well as making a record of them for those who come after you.
There is something deeply warm and comforting about this book, in the way Morgan writes. It is witchy in ways that appeal to me, but it is also fully open to anyone of any belief or practice.
