my review

A Fate Inked in Blood is just the romantasy I needed. It’s deeply rooted in Viking/Norse mythology, with a fantastic blend of plot, action, character arcs, and romance. Easily one of my favorite reads this year.

The world building is outstanding, bringing the story to life both in the setting and in the ways in which Norse mythology and magic are blended into the story. I loved the way the author used the concept of fated versus unfated, an integral part of the story. The plot is well paced, filled with tension, intrigue, and a forbidden romance, as well as plenty of action.

I enjoyed that the author made a distinction between romance and attraction between our two main characters. The heat of their attraction and the slow burn of their romance just added to the interesting dynamic between them. I loved Freya as a FMC. She’s strong and capable, very altruistic and caring, which feeds perfectly into her magic and how she wields it. Her character development was interesting as her magic developed and she discovered who she truly was. Bjorn was equally excellent as the MMC, magically and physically strong, but also deeply caring and respectful. The supporting characters were also extremely well developed, creating a story with depth.
