Top Ten Books about Friendship

1.  Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah.  This is a fantastic and moving read about two women who have been best friends since childhood.  They have had their ups and downs together, but in the end their friendship remains true.

2.  The Friday Night Knitting Club by Kate Jacobs.  This  is another heart-wrencher, but a beautiful one.  When I picked it up, I thought it was going to be on the “cozy” side with the knitting theme, but it was so much more than that!

3.  The Fault in Our Stars by John Green.  I just finished this last night and was blown away by its beauty and power.  Yes, there is some romance, but at the foundation of it all was friendship.  Beautiful read!

4.  The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chobsky.  This is a fantastic read about friendship and the importance of embracing life.  The friendships between Charlie, Patrick, and Sam were touching and full of hope.

5.  Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling.  Any of these books would qualify!  The idea of friendship is one of the most important elements of this wonderful series.

6.  The Sugar Queen by Sarah Addison Allen.  This a great story about how much friendship can change your life!  I love everything Sarah writes and this one was just as wonderful!

7.  The Bride Quartet series by Nora Roberts.  This series has four books, each one focused on one of four friends.  It follows their friendships through all the struggles of life and love.  Great reads!

8.  Summer Sisters by Judy Blume.  This book tells the story of Caitlyn and Victoria, two girls from very different social places.  Their lives are complex relationships between friendship and rivalry and is a fantastic read.

9.  P.S. I Love You by Cecelia Ahern.  This is an amazing book (and movie) that tells the story of Holly after she loses the love of her life.  As much as the story is about letting go and moving forward, it is about friends and how important they are to one’s life.

10.  Let the Right One In by John Ajvide Lindqvist.  This book is about two young children in Sweden, forming an unlikely friendship.  It is thriller/horror novel, but fantastic.  There is a Swedish movie by the same name, as well as an American version called Let Me In.

This week’s question:  Do you have to read a series in order no matter what?

I try to.  I feel like most series require reading in order so that the story is able to be experienced to the fullest.  Even if there isn’t a lot of recap necessary from one book to the next, there is usually enough of a backstory that I think it loses something if read out of order.

  1. Great list of Friendship books. I totally agree about Sarah Addison Allen Sugar Queen is still one of my fav reads. Thanks for being a part of TMST. I agree, I do try to read series in order, but when I am pressed for time, I have learned to just jump in, sure you miss a bit, but you can almost still manage to float :)
