the blurb

Forced to deal with the aftermath of her parents’ murders, Caro isn’t expecting an ambush of Savages—or salvation to come from a man as frightening as the monsters hunting her.
Determined to destroy the demons, Saber realizes his mission is over when he learns that Charles, the man who could help him, is dead. However, Charles’s daughter might be the key to saving them… if only she would reveal her secrets.
Two things could save Caro and Saber as they battle the monsters stalking them: her unique ability and his burning desire to kill.
But as they grow closer, they might not have to worry about the Savages… they may just destroy each other.
***The Alliance Series is a spin-off of the Vampire Awakenings series. You do not have to read the Vampire Awakenings Series to follow the Alliance Series.

my review

One of the things I love about this author is her ability to create characters that read true. And then she weaves stories around them that are utterly engrossing!

At first, I just couldn’t see Saber as a romantic lead. He was so cold, so unfeeling, so unmoved by anything other than anger. But as the story unfolded, the reader learns more about him, and he becomes so much more. I loved that journey. On the hand, Caro is everything I love in a female lead. She’s intelligent, she’s skilled, and she’s got an adventurous spirit. Nor is she easily intimidated by Saber’s attitude, which I thought his character desperately needed.

I loved the slow burn of their relationship, the slow trust that built between them. It felt real, something a reader can relate to. They were thrown into a situation fraught with danger that came from every side. I think that slow pace made sense for two people who weren’t always sure who they could trust.

The story is action-packed, well paced with lots of twists and turns. It’s the kind of book that keeps a reader hooked, needing to find out what happens next!

This was a great read, easy to get lost in!
